At what age can someone start learning AI?

Hands-on AI engineering works best from around age 14, once a learner can write basic Python. Younger children build that foundation first through block coding and Python. At ScholarlyEcho, the AI Developer track is open from age 14, and adults of any age can learn AI through one-on-one tutoring.

What the AI classes cover

Learners start by using AI deliberately, writing structured prompts and comparing models, and then move to building with it. They call large language model APIs from Python, train simple machine learning models, and use computer vision libraries to recognise images.

  • Prompt engineering and structured outputs
  • Building chatbots and assistants on GPT-style APIs
  • Machine learning foundations with Python, NumPy, and Pandas
  • Computer vision with OpenCV and Teachable Machine
  • Designing and deploying a complete AI product

AI for each age group

Kids aged 5 to 12 build the coding and logical-thinking foundation that AI depends on, through Scratch, Python, and app building. Teens from 13 add AI content design, and from 14 join the AI Developer track. Adults learn AI one-on-one or in the Idea2MVP cohort, where AI features are built into a real product.

Why learn AI by building

Knowing how to use a chatbot is now common. Knowing how to build with AI, judge its output, and connect it to real data is not. ScholarlyEcho teaches AI as an engineering skill, so learners finish with applications they made and understand, not only notes on how the tools work.

Where learners start on the Coders Ladder

The Coders Ladder is ScholarlyEcho's five-level curriculum. Learners are placed by ability after a free assessment, so these ages are starting points rather than limits. See the full curriculum.

Online across the United States

Classes run live on Zoom, so learners join from any state, with slots for Eastern through Pacific time. Learners also join from the UK, Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya.

Safe for young learners

Instructors are background-checked, cohorts are small, and parents of learners under 13 may observe. Read our safeguarding policy.

Skill plus mentorship

Technical classes are paired with guidance from people already working in software and AI. About ScholarlyEcho.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know how to code before learning AI?

Basic Python helps, because AI applications are built in code. Learners without it start with Python fundamentals at ScholarlyEcho, and then move into AI work once they can read and write basic programs.

Are there AI classes for young kids?

Children under 13 at ScholarlyEcho build the foundation for AI: logical thinking, block coding, and Python. Hands-on AI engineering begins around age 14 in the AI Developer track, once learners can write the code that AI applications need.

What will I build in an AI class?

Learners build working AI applications, such as a chatbot connected to a large language model, an image classifier, and a GPT-powered app. Advanced learners combine these into a complete AI product with a live URL.

How much do the classes cost?

ScholarlyEcho plans are billed monthly in U.S. dollars. Starter is $110 per month for one live group session per week, Standard is $200 per month for two live group sessions per week, and Premium 1-on-1 is $350 per month for eight private sessions. Families enrolling more than one child receive 10 percent off the second child and 15 percent off the third, and need-based scholarships are available.

Is there a free trial class?

Yes. Every new ScholarlyEcho learner starts with a free 30-minute assessment class with an instructor. It establishes the learner’s current level, recommends a track, and produces a written learning plan the family keeps. No payment card is needed and there is no obligation to enroll.

Can learners anywhere in the United States join?

Yes. ScholarlyEcho classes are taught live online over Zoom, so learners join from any U.S. state. Weekday, weekend, morning, and evening slots are available, and sessions are scheduled with the learner’s time zone in mind, from Eastern to Pacific.
